We all know that housing affordability is a big issue in Broomfield and Colorado. And, we’re told that more funding is needed to provide more affordable housing.
What they aren’t tell you is that the Broomfield House Alliance (BHA) is already well funded , includes funding from the City and County of Broomfield’s fees on developers as well as state and federal level grants. And, Broomfield citizens have said over and over that we do not support increased taxes for housing.
What’s their latest scheme to increase funding for housing in Broomfield? Raise in the Broomfield Lodging Tax from 1.6% to 6.0% - a 275% increase. So, they want visitors to Broomfield to pay more taxes to fund housing in Broomfield.
This means that a typical 5-night stay in Broomfield will now cost up to $60 more. This proposed tax increase will make more expensive to visit and stay in Broomfield, have visitors consider staying in other near-by cities, and hurting our local economy.
Protect Broomfield’s Local Economy.
Vote NO on the Broomfield Lodging Tax Increase.
What will an increased lodging tax mean to Broomfield?
A Higher Lodging Tax will make Broomfield more expensive to visit.
The proposed increase would raise Broomfield’s lodging tax from 1.6% to 6.0% - a 275% increase, increasing the cost of every taxable hotel and short-term-rental stay. A five-night stay would carry roughly $62 in lodging tax.

The increased lodging taxes are NOT required to be used to build more housing.
The proposed lodging tax increase would allow the new tax revenue to be used for broadly defined “housing-related purposes.” It does not require the lodging tax dollars to be used to construct new affordable housing.
Bottom line: A higher lodging tax does not guarantee more housing.

More taxes don’t mean more results.
Broomfield Housing Alliance - which would exclusively receive the lodging taxes - is already well fundined through from city, state, federal, and developer funding sources.
The proposed lodging tax would create yet another funding source for BHA, but doesn’t guarantee more or better housing for Broomfield.
Lodging taxes will be taken away from Broomfield’s roads & infrastructure.
Today, Broomfield’s lodging tax is dedicated to city gateways and major roadway landscaping.
The proposed lodging tax ballot measure would redirect lodging-tax dollars toward “housing-related purposes”.
