October 29, 2025 - Broomfield Taxpayer Matters Submits 70 Questions to the City and County of Broomfield Regarding the 2026 Proposed Annual Budget.
On October 28, 2025, Broomfield Taxpayer Matters submitted 70 questions to the City and County of Broomfield related to the 2026 Proposed Annual Budget. Those questions include questions related to the 2026 Proposed Annual budget, the 5-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), and the October 14 Memo related to the CCOB, BURA, Arista budgets, water rate increases, and 2026 bond issuances for the Broomfield Police Building, Water Tanks, and Wastewater Treatment Facility. We are concerned about increases in spending and revenue by the City and County of Broomfield in light of the policy decisions by the Broomfield Council and the City and County of Broomfield. We are reaching out to you with these questions and look forward to receiving clarification from you on these matters.
By way of background, Broomfield Taxpayer Matters is a 501(c)(4) non-partisan nonprofit organization focused on fiscal and civic issues, including the public policies of the City and County of Broomfield. We come from the perspective of being among the thousands of taxpayers who carry the burden of paying for the policies enacted at the local, state, and national levels. This burden takes the form of ever-increasing taxes, historically high inflation, and overall increases in the cost of living. We are also grappling with large property tax increases in Colorado, compounded by Broomfield policy decision related to increasing water rates to fund the dramatically underfunded enterprise funds, and other projects such as single-hauler trash, which are all contributing to higher and higher costs of living for Broomfield citizens. Similar to the last few years, we as citizens and taxpayers are once again faced with making difficult decisions to tighten our belts and make ends meet in our family budgets, businesses, and personal finances, in no small part due to the policies set forth by the City and County of Broomfield.
As with past budgets, we appreciate the difficult task that the City and County of Broomfield faces in managing an overall budget that is now approaching $900 million. At the same time, we are seeking clarifications and a better understanding of the processes and decisions to ensure the CCOB’s financial stability. Citizens continue to bear the brunt of the high costs to fund the increased spending that the City and County of Broomfield intends to continue into 2026 and well into the future. We deserve true and clear explanations on how the City and County of Broomfield arrived at the budget and how City Council’s policy decisions are affecting the budget and taxpayers.
The questions we posed to the City and County of Broomfield are available here. We look forward to the City and County of Broomfield’s responses to these questions, and we welcome additional dialogue on the same. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration in answering these questions.
