Small Business Spotlight - Gourmet Kitchen and Copper Leaf
Madhoo and Vipul Seth, Owners of Gourmet Kitchen and Copper Leaf, Providing Support to the Front Lines
Imagine your parents’ 50th anniversary is just around the corner. You’ve planned a fun weekend evening where your family and friends can gather to celebrate a loving milestone with them at a locale hosting the event in a comfortable setting, with exceptional service, and fantastic in-house catered food and drinks.
Two months ago, this was happening practically every week, if not every day. Today, events like this are virtually non-existent under the current social and economic circumstances related to COVID-19. Not only does this reality impact the families and friends who would gather on such occasions, it directly and tangibly impacts the businesses that provide these services.
What was a flourishing part of the services industry a few short weeks ago is now struggling to survive as many of businesses are being wiped out by emergency orders and massive restrictions on how they can do business in light of the COVID-19 crisis. This is a reality that Madhoo and Vipul Seth, owners of The Gourmet Kitchen and Catering and Copper Leaf in Broomfield have faced since the start of these business restrictions.

Madhoo and Vipul describe their business as providing services to the Broomfield and north Metro community where “We cook in your language”. Their businesses are environmentally conscious, and are committed to environmental sustainability and rigorously implement Reduce/Reuse/Recycle. These best practices reflect the spirit of Gourmet Kitchen which is an innovative green company with its in-house wind energy, compost management, bio-fuel, and small farm resources which are leveraged as part of the business. Their business practices also include packing food for their clients, giving leftover food to employees and local churches, composting any food that cannot be consumed, and partnering with WeDontWaste.org to minimize their waste.
As Madhoo and Vipul have successfully built their businesses focused on their family, cultural, and environmental values, they are now facing serious headwinds due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the current government restrictions, including no gatherings of more than ten people, their business has been dramatically and negatively impacted, and Madhoo and Vipul had re-imagine how to do business. Instead of hosting weddings and receptions or catering for events, they have turned the focus of the business to providing meals to hospitals staff, doctors, and first responders that keeps their staff busy and employed.
To realize this vision, Madhoo established Feed the Heroes Denver, with the mission “to provide delicious meals to our heroes who are fighting COVID19 24x7 and to those who are the most vulnerable during these trying times”. The staff has provided individually packaged meals and gallons of tea and coffee to hundreds of workers on the frontlines, including over 500 staff in 40 departments at Saint Anthony’s North hospital. They have also provided meals to the Broomfield Police Department. All of this is done with a strong connection to the community.

More recently on May 15, 2020, Madhoo and her staff provided breakfast for 75 officers at the Adams County sheriffs department. The meals were provided as Adams County honored six fallen offices who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in the Fallen Officer Memorial Ceremony. To date, Madhoo and Vipul have sponsored over 2,300 meals to our community’s front-line workers.
While Madhoo has concerns about what it means to get back to normal as the COVID-19 crisis runs its course, it has not stopped her from following and improving the company’s environmental and safety policies which include wearing kitchen shoes, masks, and gloves, as well as constant hand washing as part of their food preparation.
We are honored to highlight Madhoo and Vipul for their ingenuity as their businesses provide support to our community and her employees in these challenging times. Please support Madhoo and Vipul in their business’ efforts by donating to Feed the Hero’s Denver, and patronizing The Gourmet Kitchen and Copper Leaf.
Madhoo and Vipul, thank you for all that you are doing to support the community and your employees!
